MADISON - Today, Senate Minority Leader Melissa Agard announced her campaign for Dane County Executive.

“I was born and raised here in Dane County. I have dedicated my career to improving the lives of the people here," said Senator Melissa Agard. "I'm excited to announce my candidacy for Dane County Executive, and I hope that the voters will join me as I embark on this next chapter in my service to our community.

"Our county has been fortunate to have great leaders like Joe Parisi and Kathleen Falk over the past two decades. Now I'm running to build on their progress and create a forward-thinking county government ready for the challenges and opportunities ahead. Dane County can be a national example of a community with authentic progressive values—where everyone is welcome and has access to the quality of life services they need to thrive.

“I look forward to spending the next year traveling across Dane County and listening to voters from every corner of our county. Working together, we will build safer, healthier, more vibrant communities, whether they’re rural, urban or suburban. As a mom, a small business owner, and a legislator, I have a unique perspective and a deep understanding of the challenges we all face and the opportunity we have as a Dane County community. I’m ready to hit the ground running on day one.”

Agard was born and raised in Dane County and is the mother of four sons. She currently represents Wisconsin’s 16th Senate District and was unanimously elected as Senate Democratic Leader in November 2022. Prior to her time in the State Senate, Agard served in the Wisconsin State Assembly and on the Dane County Board.

Earlier this year, Dane County Executive Joe Parisi announced his intent to resign in 2024. The general election for Dane County Executive will be held on November 5th, 2024. For more information about Senator Agard and her campaign, please visit www.melissaagard.com. ###
